A Driveway Should Say “Welcome To Our Home”

A driveway, just like any other piece of your home or garden, should be properly maintained. This is the first thing a visitor to your house would see, before even getting to your beautifully landscaped garden or expensive wood carved door, so why are so few people paying attention to the condition of their driveways?

Just as grass needs to be cut and roses need to be trimmed, driveways also require some attention!

resin driveways diy covered in weed does not quite say “welcome to my home”, but rather “please do not disturb my owners; they are so busy that they don’t even have time to look after their home!” Or maybe even “They just don’t care”! A driveway is not a garden – don’t allow anything green to flourish there! It might be quite difficult to get rid of some of the tougher weeds between the bricks, but a quick stop at the nearest nursery would take care of this as a wide range of weed killers for paved areas are readily available.

Oil and paving don’t mix! If your (or your visitors’!) car leaks oil onto your driveway, it is very important to clean this as soon as possible to prevent the oil from staining the paving. A driveway creating the impression of 101 Dalmatians is really not something to be proud of! A driveway should never ever be used as a workshop – this is what garages are there for! And let’s face it, it’s not very attractive if your neighbour walks by and is greeted by ten toes peeking out from under your car! And if you eventually manage to slide out from under the car and greet your neighbour with an oily hand, it might just be the end of a good relationship!

Some driveways are quite difficult to navigate!

If you have a long narrow driveway, do not make the situation worse by planting two lanes of roses on both sides of the driveway. Rather leave that extra bit of space for someone with a larger car… or for when your teenage daughter starts with driving lessons! Reversing can be especially daunting for a learner driver, so the less “booby traps” next to the driveway, the better!

It is also important that driveways are properly lit!

With a lot of modern families both mom and dad work full time jobs. Always be alert when you leave your house in the morning, and especially if you often arrive home after dark, tired after a long day at the office. A dark driveway can be a safety concern, as getting in and out of your car (to open a gate or garage for example) leaves you vulnerable, therefore always take extra precaution if arriving after dark.
